Flat Matt loops, unlike traditional loops are installed on the surface of the road. This is useful in structures like carparks, where cutting into the ground could compromise the structure.

Loops installed in car parks are used to detect a vehicles presence and control the barrier arm. Furthermore, the loop detects the number of vehicles entering and exiting the car park thus activating the VMS Car Park Signs showing space availability.
